Canadian Breast Cancer Run for a Cure

Kids Creature Factory Inc. was thrilled to be part of the Canadian Breast Cancer Run for a Cure Event October 3, 2010 at the University of Toronto campus with more than 20,000 participants. We were part of the Family Area where we created "Ribbon Wands" and "Flying Fish" with sticks and tissue paper. The event was incredible. Many participants stopped by to share creative time and beautiful stories of dedication to their loved ones. Martin Meenster visits local day care centres to share interactive stories about life lessons and growing up strong and healthy. With the Miinsters, Friends, and Family Members Martin Meenster learns the ups and downs of growing up in the big city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Children 18 months to 4 years old learn through various themes and subject matters such as; environmental awareness, social skills, community sharing and building, growing up in the city, relationships, healthy living, and getting ready for bed. Today we started decorating our paper mache forms by adding soft fleece inside of the helmet for comfort, then we started painting the outside of the helmet. Next week we do the finishing touches and begin working on Monster Creepy Capes. By the end of the program participants will have amazing Monster Helmets, Monster Creepy Capes and Monster Marionette Puppets. Merry Miinster Making with Sponge

Welcome to Merry Miinster Making with "Sponge".

The Kids Creature Factory Inc. is getting ready for the holiday season making Merry Miinsters with a base of sponge. In preparation for the La Muse Art Studio's Christmas Bazaar, Ducky is incorporating a painted sponge (body), coated wire (legs), stone base to sit on, fun fleece hats, and 3-D fabric paint for colourful textures and eyes.

This season's new batch of Merry Miinsters is inspired by colourful Christmas lights and soft fleece hats with tiny pom-poms.

Monster Helmet

Kids Creature Factory Inc. wants to be part of bringing innovative and creative activities to inspire the creepy side of the imagination. This is a "Monster Helmet" made of paper-mache.

This project was inspired by a broken pinata form from one of our workshops that one of our participants had put on their head. I thought, a crazy Monster Helmet would be so cool to explore. It's layered in acrylic paint and 3-D fabric paint in a selection of florescent colours. It has layers of soft fleece on top and is fully lined with it. There are cut out pieces of soft foam also to create the pointy fin like parts.

I also facilitated a great workshop for Art Starts Community Cultural Centre making Monster Helmets and it went over very well. The group of 20 participants had a blast creating Monster Helmets they could wear. Some helmets wear cute, pretty, and glittery while many of them were super scary. Stay tuned for more Monster Helmet creations.

Our most current activity "Fun Fleece Knot Hats" has been selected to be part of Art Starts Community Cultural Centre's participation with the City of Toronto's 2009 Winter City Festival.

With simple panels of soft fleece and scissors a variety of practical, wearable hats can be created.
